To manage pests in our service's indoor & outdoor environments while understanding their role within a balanced natural environment.
To manage perceived pests while supporting minimal toxic chemical use and the health & safety of staff, children & visitors to our service. Connected to Sustainability Project Book pg 29, 10/3/2022
Outcomes
- Staff & children are educated and supported in their knowledge to identify insects, arachnids (spiders), gastropods (slugs & snails), hymenopters (wasps, bees & ants), lepidoptera (moths, butterflies in all stages of development), reptiles, snakes, birds & other rodents that may live or be present from time to time in our indoor & outdoor environments.
- Their life cycles, habits and risks to humans & property are understood so controls and management can be practiced in an environmentally sustainable way.
Short Term Strategies
- Identify what staff, children & families consider are pests in our environment.
- Understand their risks to the health & wellbeing of the humans, resources, flora & fauna.
- Understand how to manage the risk using natural, low toxic or toxic chemicals.
Long Term Strategies
- Design a resource to support the identification of pest risks in our indoor & outdoor environments.
- Design a risk assessment & matrix to support management & control measures of risks.
- Ongoing support & education in this area as new staff, committees & families are involved with our organisation.
